Serial television films have become one of the main television products on the air. Many people are eagerly awaiting the release of a new series, discuss plot twists and turns on fan sites, and hold festivals and conventions on their favorite series. But it often happens that good TV shows suddenly close, it would seem, for inexplicable reasons.

Instruction manual
1
The first television shows appeared in the middle of the last century in Europe. Since then, a huge number of episodes have been shot devoted to funny situations, time movements, superheroes, romantic relationships, adventures, and detective stories. There are several main reasons for the series to close, and for the most part they are connected with money, because a television series is a commercial product, which means it should not be unprofitable.
2
Perhaps the most common reason for closing the series is low ratings. If a television show does not attract a sufficient percentage of the audience to the screens, television channels are forced to curtail the production of new series in order to free up resources and airtime for more profitable products. In the end, the cost of shooting one series can reach several million dollars, and if you add to this also the price of screen time, then the cost of showing the series will increase even more. Many of the series, which showed impressive ratings at the start, were ultimately closed precisely because too few people watched them. The airtime of any channel is too expensive to spend on unprofitable television shows.
3
By the way, the need to change the broadcast grid is also one of the reasons for the completion of the series. There is only 24 hours in a day, and the so-called "prime time" (the time when most people decide to watch TV, for example, after the end of the working day) is even less. New products are constantly appearing, and in order to free up space for them in the prime time, even series with a good rating can be closed.
4
In addition, the series can be closed, because their storyline has come to its logical conclusion, all conflicts are resolved, good triumphed and everyone is happy. To a large extent, this applies to multi-series adaptations of literary works. The book is over, and the series will end. However, TV shows based on original scripts also cannot last forever, and when the scriptwriters' imagination ends, the production of the series ceases. Also, the reasons for the closure may be conflicts in the crew, strikes, dismissals, illness or death of one of the main participants in the creation of the series.
note
The longest series in the world, lasting from 1937 to 2009, is called Guiding Light. It began as a radio show, and in 1952 went on television. The series has 15 thousand episodes. In the end, it was closed due to the same low ratings.
