Before becoming a star in MMA fights, Georges Saint-Pierre worked as a scavenger, was a salesman in a flooring store, and a bouncer in a nightclub. He spent all the money he earned on martial arts training in order to achieve one goal - to become the best.
As a result, during his entire career, he only twice suffered a defeat and became a legendary fighter. He has more than ten titles like "Fighter of the Year" and "Athlete of the Year", has the title of the most famous fighter. In addition, Georges Pierre is the UFC champion in his weight category.
Once he left the ring - there were health problems, but when he returned, he immediately confirmed the title of champion. Another unspoken name for Georges is the “Welterweight King”. At least that was what he was called until 2013, the year he left the fight.
Biography
Georges Pierre was born in 1981 in Quebec. His parents were simple workers, and they never thought that their first son would become so famous. Georges had two younger sisters, and he was to become their protector.
However, as soon as he went to school - immediately began the harassment of older children. Georges was not tall, frail, so he got the most: he was constantly taken away everything valuable and threatened to beat him if he told anyone at least a word about it.
Of course, he was scared to tell his parents everything, however, the independent character of the future fighter did not allow him to tolerate such an attitude. Then he went to the karate section to be able to protect himself and the sisters. Along the way, he was engaged in hockey, but then he still chose wrestling. Mostly he did this because in this sport the victory depended only on him alone, and not on the team.
Very soon after the start of classes, everyone who was older began to fear him, because he could give a fitting rebuff. The ambitious boy liked this, and he began to practice with a vengeance.
When George was sixteen years old, he began to study Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then boxing and wrestling. To engage in science, Pierre began to be interested in kinesiology - the science of motion mechanics. These classes were very expensive, so I had to work hard to pay for them.
Sports career
Five years of tireless training have passed since then, and here Georges achieved success - he earned a black belt in Kyokushin karate. His debut as a professional fighter took place in the UCC league. A fighter from El Salvador, Ivan Menhivar, who was quite experienced and trained, was put up against him, but Pierre laid him down by knockout already in the first round.
In 1992, Georges became the UCC champion in his weight.
Then he made his debut in the UFC - he fought with the American Caro Parisyan. The fight was difficult, and at first it was not clear who won. As a result, the jury awarded the victory to Saint-Pierre.
Georges suffered his first defeat from American fighter Matt Hughes. It was annoying, but objective - Matt was a worthy opponent.
In 2005, Saint-Pierre was rehabilitating with might and main: he won four fights in a row with a victory, and his opponents were not a weak dozen.
And then came the year 2006, when the Canadian was to enter the ring against Matt Hughes, who won a year ago. It was an exciting moment for Georges, and he understood that he had to defeat himself first, his fears, and then victory in the ring would come. Fortunately, he was able to cope with emotions and defeated the opponent in the second round.
A year later, Saint Pierre was waiting for another defeat from Matt Serra, to which he reacted very painfully. But there was a plus in this - the athlete concentrated and soon regained the championship title.
He defeated Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, and other strong fighters more than once, remaining at the top of the sports Olympus all the time.
The intense rhythm of training and the psychological burden of each battle were not without consequences: Saint-Pierre decided to leave the sport for a while. He said that it’s hard to be a champion for a long time - it’s a constant strain.
He returned in 2017 and immediately won, becoming the UFC middleweight champion.
Since 2018, rumors have circulated that the manager of Saint-Pierre plans to agree on a fight with the famous Khabib Nurmagomedov. For the Canadian, this would be a good last chord in his sports career. Of course, with a good outcome of the battle.
Habib in his interview said that he also did not mind meeting in the ring with the living legend of MMA.
