In May 2012, the film "Kingdom of the Full Moon" opened the Cannes Film Festival, and almost all the stars involved in the film attended the premiere. Both critics and viewers graciously accepted the on-screen tale of first love, shot in the vibrant scenery of the sixties.
The film’s genre is directed by Wes Anderson as “an ironic retro comedy.” The action in the "Kingdom of the Full Moon" takes place in New England of the sixties of the twentieth century. The main characters are teenagers Sam performed by Jared Gilman and Susie performed by Kara Hayward. The guys get acquainted during an amateur production of the play and quickly find a common language, since both are "white crows". Sam is an orphan, he spends the summer at the Boy Scout camp, and Susie is in the company of an ebullient mother and quiet father, played by the famous comedian Bill Murray. After meeting behind the scenes, the characters exchange addresses and begin to correspond. Their epistolary affair lasts almost a year, and finally, having firmly decided that life without each other would not be sweet for them, Susie and Sam decide to escape together, which is also agreed in the correspondence.
Upon learning that teenagers were gone in a small sleepy town, the sheriff (Bruce Willis), who had previously spent all the time fishing, raises the people on alert, collecting a detachment of volunteers. A mathematics teacher, a counselor in the scout squad (Edward Norton), also connects to the search, but he has his own plan for catching the fugitives. And Sam and Suzy are looking for the evil spirits from the social service (Tilda Swinton), who is in a hurry to find naughty children in order to apply her favorite method of punishment - electroshock.
In all this turmoil, only Susie's dad remains suspiciously calm: he, unlike other adults, has not yet forgotten, as he had once been twelve years old and first in love, and covers the children to give them a bright and innocent feeling.
The matter is complicated by the fact that a hurricane is approaching the city. At the same time, when lightning strikes one of the characters, he also becomes cartoony - this original idea brought the director additional praise from film critics.
A young couple, masterfully breaking away from numerous pursuers, moves with a map in their hands to their cherished goal: a cave called "Kingdom of the Full Moon". By a coincidence, they find shelter on a desert island, where Sam first confesses to Susie in love. Like Romeo and Juliet, the characters try to confront the whole world together, however, unlike Shakespeare's plays, in the Wes Anderson film, everything ends so that the viewer watches the credits with a smile on his face.
