Nelli Furtado was born December 2, 1978 in the family of ordinary workers Maria and Antonio Furtado, who move for the future of their children from the Azores to Canada.
Nelly’s childhood and youth are held in the provincial town of Victoria. Here, she attends a dance studio and music school. At nine years old, she already plays the ukulele, masters the trombone and piano. At twelve years old he writes the first song. Music becomes for her the meaning of life. And having reached adulthood, Nelly moves to Toronto. In a strange city, she realizes that she can only rely on herself. Therefore, he is going to work in a small organization as a secretary. But in his free time he continues to work on poetry and music. Over time, making friends, she organizes the group "Nelstar". In 1997, in the life of Nelly, an event occurs that turns her whole life. She participates in a competition for young vocalists, where she is noticed by Gerald Eaton and Brian West. And when they offer to sign an agreement to create the first solo album, Nelly agrees without hesitation. So they become its producers.
Career
In 2000, the debut album “Whoa, Nelly!” Was released, which became double platinum. The single "I'm like a Bird" has been around for quite some time in the first lines of the charts of Canada, Australia and New Zealand. That allows you to win the Juno Award in the category "Song of the Year".
The second album, entitled "Folklore", was released in November 2003.
