According to Catholic canons, a woman cannot become either the head of the church - the Pope, or an ordinary priest. However, there is a tradition according to which a woman once occupied the papal throne.
Question of the female priesthood
The issue of female priesthood is usually raised by modern Christian churches. Thanks to women's emancipation and the spread of liberal ideas in the world, even Christians believe that the usurpation of the role of a priest by men is unfair. This applies, first of all, to the Protestant denominations of the new wave. The idea of introducing the female priesthood and part of the traditional Evangelical Lutheran church supports the idea. However, all the ancient Apostolic churches, including Catholicism, unequivocally condemn and reject the female clergy, believing that the priest is a type of Christ himself, whom the woman cannot symbolize.
Supporters of the female clergy consider this position to be wrong and discriminatory, because both the man and the woman have the image of God, which is much more important than gender differences.
Although in the ancient church there was an institution of the so-called deaconess ministers, who had great informal authority in the church hierarchy.
