Starting conditions
To a large extent, the environment forms a person. Cars, motorcycles and other vehicles attract the attention of many boys. When this interest is supported by adults, it is likely that the young man will achieve decent results. Colin MacRae sat in a race car seat at the age of two. This is not surprising, because his father was a famous racer and a multiple champion in various motor rallies and car crosses. It was at this moment that the further fate of the child was decided.
The future racer was born on August 5, 1968 in the family of a five-time British rally champion. Parents lived in the Scottish town of Lanark. Colin's grandfather kept his car workshop. The boy spent all his free time here. He diligently helped the elders to repair damaged cars. He always worked diligently. In fact, it was a real education, which was useful to Macray in the future. Already at the age of seven he was presented with a motorcycle. When the guy turned fourteen, he won the first tournament in the career of a motorcycle rider.
Tournaments and victories
In 1985, MacRae replaced the motorcycle with a car. To participate in the first competition, he had to ask a friend for a car. The debut was unsuccessful. On a simple track, the young rider managed to pull over. As a result, the crew was in the fourteenth place. The following season, at the Scottish Championship, Colin did not repeat his mistake, and came to the finish in the top ten. This was a serious bid for subsequent success. He immediately got the nickname "Flying Brick". To improve the results in races, you must have a reliable car with a regulated engine.
To quickly repair a racing car, the McRae team had to equip a mobile service station. Under the workshop, the mechanics adapted an old van. In 1990, Colin took third place in the UK championship, driving a car under the brand name "Subaru". After this victory, eminent rivals began to treat him with respect and apprehension. After numerous victories on various tracks, in 1999 MacRae received a decent offer. He signed a contract with the Ford team.
