McCann never dreamed of becoming an actor. Only thanks to the efforts of his friend, who was directly related to the cinema, Rory decided to try himself in the episodic role of one of the television series. He liked to act in films, especially since proposals from directors began to come to him regularly. As a result, McCann nevertheless made a choice in favor of the cinema, although he repeatedly admitted that popularity for him was a test to which he still could not get used to.
Children and teenagers
Rory was born in Scotland in the spring of 1969. Almost nothing is known about his parents and childhood, because McCann does not favor journalists, he avoids questions about his biography and personal life in every possible way.
In school years, Rory did not stand out among his peers, except perhaps by leanness and short stature. His classmates constantly made fun of him. And then the boy decided to start actively playing sports and going to the gym. Gradually, his figure changed and, in addition, the young man became almost two meters tall. They stopped teasing him in the class, they began to call him "big." This nickname was fixed to him until the end of his studies at school.
Another hobby of adolescence was climbing. McCann spent a lot of time in the mountains and loves nature. Perhaps this is precisely what influenced the choice of his profession as a forester, which he received by continuing his education at a college in Scotland.
Creative way
To earn a living and study, Rory worked hard. He was a worker, a carpenter, a house painter, and even a designer. In those years, he did not even think about the career of an actor, although he still got on television. His colorful appearance was noticed by one of the agents for selecting actors for advertising, and Rory was invited to shoot. For a while, he advertised Scott's popular Porridge Oats porridge. On one of the shootings, he even had to try on a national Scottish costume, which attracted the attention of the audience even more. According to the stories of Rory himself, in advertising they paid more attention to him than to porridge, and even began to recognize him on the street and ask for an autograph.
But shooting in commercials did not lead Rory to the big cinema, although he continued to collaborate with television, starred in several episodic roles in the series: Pied Piper, London is on fire, and "Master of the Valley." Although McCann strongly opposed the shooting, his friend - director L. Ramsey - literally forced the young man to start working on the set. As a result, after some time, Rory even began to like the acting profession, and then he decided to try himself in a big movie.
Success came to McCann after the comedy "Book Club", where he got the image of rescuer Kenny MacLeod. For this role, Rory was awarded the BAFTA and recognized as the best actor on television.
In the early 2000s, McCann began acting in Hollywood. His external data attracted the attention of directors. Already in 2004, he received the role of Crater in the film "Alexander" of the famous Oliver Stone.
This was followed by work in the films: "Time of the Witches", "Solomon Kane", "Clash of the Titans" and finally in the series "Game of Thrones", after which McCann came to world fame and fame. Many actors claimed the role of Kligan, but the director J. Martin himself made the choice, seeing in Rory exactly the data that was necessary for the image of Sandor Kligan to be embodied on the screen.
