Laurel Hamilton Biography
The childhood and youth of the writer
Laurel Hamilton, full name Loreal Kay Hamilton, maiden name Klein, was born on February 19, 1963 in the small town of Khiber Springs, Arkansas (USA). Her father left the family when the girl was not even a year old. Susie Kline's mother raised her daughter until the age of 6, but once returning from work, she did not fasten her seat belt in a car that could save her life in an accident.
Having lost her mother early, Laurel was brought up by her grandmother, who lived in the town of Sims. Grandfather constantly beat grandmother, although he treated his granddaughter kindly. Laurel saw the unity and contradiction of tenderness and cruelty in her own person. The girl loved both grandparents. Grandmother told granddaughter terrible stories and gradually addicted the girl to mysticism. These circumstances influenced the nature of the writer's works.
After leaving school, the girl went to study at Christian College, Marion, Indiana. After studying for 4 years, she received a bachelor's degree in biology and English literature.
Writing career Laurel Hamilton
Since childhood, Laurel Hamilton dreamed of writing books. The girl composed the first story at the age of 12. At age 14, she confidently decided to write works of dark, gloomy fantasy in the style of "horrer" with elements of science fiction and eroticism. The reason was the read Laurel Robert Howard's book "Pigeons of Hell." Already in her youth, the writer took her hobby very seriously. At the time when the peers of the seventeen-year-old Laurel went to the movies, she was adding her stories.
The first cycle of novels
At the age of 30, namely with the book on the Forbidden Fruit, Laurel Hamilton began to become world famous. This was the first novel of the cycle about Anita, consisting of twelve books. Anita Blake is a short woman struggling with the undead, able to raise zombies and possessing a number of talents. The character of Anita, her attitude to life and the model of behavior are close to the writer. Loreal knows Anita almost as well as herself. In the novel, the action takes place in a country similar to modern America, but with an admixture of magic. Unlike most episodes with similar ties, vampires and other evil spirits live here on a par with ordinary people and enjoy all the rights of US citizens, rather than hiding from the government and ordinary mortals. Laurel Hamilton continues this cycle at the present time. Books coming out of her pen occasionally appear on the lists of best-selling books in the United States and Great Britain.
The second cycle of novels
At age 37, Laurel Hamilton released the second major cycle about Princess Fairy "Meridite Gentry." The world of this series has much in common with Anita America, but the characters and plots are completely different. For novels about Meredith, Laurel specifically studied the issue of modern politics, but primarily used episodes from the life of the French court of the times of the “Sun King” Louis XIV. Fragments of British history are often used in fantasy - and Laurel Hamilton decided to take France as a model.
In addition, Laurel wrote one novel at a time in the inter-author universes of Star Trek and Ravenloft. She is constantly working on writing another book and, in spite of her technophobia, regularly publishes new books.
