Childhood
Sergey Lemeshev was born in 1902 in a small village in the Tver region. His parents were peasants, but both were very musical, his mother was considered the best singer in the village. Sergey grew up with his brother Alexei, the boys were very friendly. The remaining children in the family died.
Sergey sang from early childhood. It was as natural for him as working in the field. But one day his uncle took him with him to St. Petersburg, and then the boy found out that singing turned out to be a profession. This thought deeply sunk into the guy's soul.
Education
Elena Nikolaevna Kvashnina, the wife of a local landowner and architect, played a large role in Sergey’s music education. She once graduated from the Saratov Conservatory and invited talented children to study with her. The elder brother Alexei Lemeshev did not attach much importance to music classes, considering them frivolous, although, according to Elena Nikolaevna, he had a stronger voice than Sergei. But Sergei did music with rapture.
Once Sergey Lemeshev felt strong in himself and went on foot to Tver, where he was listened to at the local cultural center and allowed to participate in concerts.
Sergey experienced many difficulties before entering the Moscow Conservatory. But for the guy from the village this was a great achievement. The conservatory, too, was not going smoothly. He had to relearn because he had previously breathed incorrectly while singing. In addition, the young man studied with many teachers, trying to take a bit of wisdom from each of them.
Creative way
After graduating from the Conservatory, Lemeshev was offered a job at the Bolshoi Theater, but he refused, preferring the Sverdlovsk Opera House. The calculation was that in the Urals the young singer was immediately waiting for the main parts, and in the Bolshoi Theater this would have to wait a long time.
Lemeshev returned to the Bolshoi Theater as a star. Further, success, fame, the love of the audience and the best concert halls of the Soviet Union awaited him.
