Laila Alizadeh is an Afghan actress who became famous for the role of Feda in Henry Hughes' short film "Day One", which received an Oscar nomination.
Biography
Layla Alizadeh was born on August 10, 1977, in Kabul, Afghanistan. Shortly after the birth of a daughter, the family decided to move to Montreal, Canada, where Laila spent most of her childhood.
From a very young age, Laila showed interest in foreign languages and acting. While studying in high school, she joined a drama circle and took part in several school performances. So the thirteen-year-old Laila was noticed by a talent search agent - and offered a small role. Subsequently, she received a major role in a Canadian television show called "KidZone".
After participating in "KidZone", she realized that her true desire = to become an actress. Parents supported her daughter and moved with her to Vancouver. From that moment, Laila began attending the prestigious theater school "Studio 58", where she studied acting.
Career
Layla Alizadeh made her debut on American television in 1995 when she played the role of Carol in one of the episodes of the detective-drama series "Strange Luck." A couple of years later, she played a small role in John Maktirnan's famous sci-fi action movie 13th Warrior, which was released in 1999. But the breakthrough role in her acting career was the role of Mina's Afghan refugee in Don McBrirty's film “Pursuit of Freedom”. This role earned her a 2005 Gemini Award nomination. In addition, she received the Gracie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Film.
From 2005 to 2006, Laila played in four episodes of the Canadian comedy series Bistro At Godiva. The role of Rajni Haider in this series brought Laila several nominations for Leo Awards, Canadian Screen Awards and Gemini Awards.
In a fairly short time and hard work, the actress achieved heights in a career that others could dream of, but she was not going to stop there. Every year several paintings came out with her participation. These were starring roles in Rahul Nath’s dramatic film Compromise or in Jake Thornton’s short film Blood Soldiers: Interrogation. And secondary in the favorite TV series "The Mentalist" and "Melissa and Joey." And the knowledge of such foreign languages as Farsi, French, Turkish and English allowed her to expand the range of roles.
