Karomatullo Kurbanov is a popular Tajik singer whose peak of fame came at the end of the eighties. His passing away was tragic. The singer and musicians from his group were shot in cold blood by militants during the civil confrontation in Tajikistan.

Biography: early years
Karomatullo Kurbanov was born on November 29, 1961 in the small town of Kulyab, which is 175 km from Dushanbe. Soon after his appearance, the family moved to the neighboring Rudaki region. There, the parents of the future singer began to work on the Partizani Surkh collective farm.
Caromatullo became interested in music when he went to school. At that time, he literally lived for her. It was not difficult for him to quickly master the game on several instruments.
After school, Kurbanov became a student at the Institute of Arts. There he became close to Ismatullo Holov. Together with him, they later came up with and put into practice the ensemble “Sugdiyon”, in which they sang a duet. The team was very popular in Tajikistan.
However, soon their creative tandem fell apart. But by then Kurbanov was already recognized on the street. This helped him quickly find work in another ensemble. So he became a soloist of the Gulshan team.
Creation
The musical career of Karomatullo Kurbanov quickly went uphill. He was constantly invited to concerts of national importance. His compositions were recognizable due to the peculiar style of performance. He was the founder of his school on the local stage and brought a new trend to it.
Caromatullo sympathized with the Indian style. Even in national music, he tried to use Indian instruments. Two decades after the death of Kurbanov, many young Tajik singers imitate his performance technique and try to be like him.
In parallel with the performance of songs, Caromatullo composed poems and music. Among his creations were such hits as:
- "Rax Bikun";
- Zindagi
- Shahri of the Harrow.
His repertoire included songs in Indian. Caromatullo managed to release 7 albums, which included about 80 songs.
Tragic death
The life of a popular singer ended at the age of 30. On October 18, 1992, he was shot, sending a machine gun directly in the face. At that time, in Tajikistan, the civil war was in full swing. That October evening, Kurbanov, along with his musicians, spoke at the wedding of an influential person in the village of Toshokhur. When the artists returned home after the concert, fighters attacked their car on the road.
They calmly shot musicians from machine guns. Then only one person survived - the sound engineer Rustam Alimov, who managed to quietly escape. It was he who told that when shooting at Kurbanov’s faces, the insurgent squeezed out with anger: “We’re fighting here, but do you sing songs at weddings?”
