Loki - the god of knives and the lord of snakes? No, he is much more powerful and capable than shown in the film. Mythology will open its doors to us to show the true essence of the god of lies, cunning and mischief.
The god of lies, cunning and deceit Lodur or the more familiar to us Loki in mythology.
German-Scandinavian mythology gave us a lot of myths and legends, where incredible characters with a truly interesting story are hidden. One of these characters is Loki, his other name is Lodur - the son of Yotun Farbauti and Lauvei, who is mentioned in two keys - as an Asgardian and a giant, that is, it is not known to mythology who it was. Loki is the god of cunning and deception, who even though he came from Yotun, the world of ice giants, but still remained in Asgard, the abode of the gods, thanks to his cunning and intelligence.
In mythology, Loki is definitely not the son of Odin, but his twin, whom Odin, for a minute, put in one place with him. So to say that Loki is some kind of frail god, who knows nothing but jokes and intrigues - stupidity.
Loki has several children. His first children from the giantess Angrboda are the terrible wolf Fernir, the giant snake Yormungand and the goddess of the kingdom of the dead - Helheim - Hel.
Hel - but in the film everyone calls her Hela, and she is definitely not his daughter. Hel is the goddess of the kingdom of the dead Helheim, where she was exiled by Odin. She ruled there for a long time, but at the beginning of Ragnarok she led an army of the dead to storm Asgard.
Fenrir - the god of horror, lived at one time in Asgard, until he became so huge and terrible that only one person could feed him. The Asgardians decided to chain him, but he tore each of them. Only then did they create the Gleipnir chain from the noise of cat's footsteps, a female beard, mountain roots, fish breath and bird saliva that could hold him. The Asgardians chained him and stuck a sword between his mouths. At the time of Ragnarok - the death of the gods - he was freed, but was killed. But in the film, everything is much different, but we will consider it a little lower.
The third child of Loki is the giant snake Yormungand. We know him as a sea or Midgard serpent, which Odin threw to the bottom of the World Ocean, and Yormunggand girdled the whole earth around and clutched his tail with his teeth. Thor will kill him during Ragnarok, but unfortunately Jörmungadn will take him by himself, poisoning him with his own poison.
His next wife, Shigun, is the goddess of Asgard. She was his faithful wife and gave birth to two children - Narvi and Vali. But they turn Vali into a wolf, which tears his brother Narvi and his guts, the gods of Asgard tie Loki to the rock, where the goddess Skadi hanged a snake over Loki dripping poison on his face. Shigun, like a loving and faithful wife, holds a bowl over his face, preventing the poison from falling on him, but when she needs to empty the vessel, the poison falling on Loki makes him suffer from violent pain and, after giving it, it causes earthquakes in Midgard. All this is due to the fact that at the feast of the giant Aegir Loki, he admits that he is guilty of the death of Baldar - the god of spring and light. And it is precisely for this that the angry Asgardians punish the trickster.
He also helped the Asgardians avoid the fees for building the walls of Asgard. The builder Giant demands the goddess Freyja as a payment, the Gods agree. But when the hour of payment is approaching, they force Loki to come up with a plan so as not to pay the bills. So Loki turns into a mare and seduces a faithful assistant to the builder - the horse of Swadilfari. From which he later carried the eight-legged stallion Sleipnir.
The story of Loki from mythology is not something that people are used to seeing and reading, and it itself is a little rude and in some places unpleasant, probably. However, it is important to know so as not to face the faces of those who understand this.
