The hippie movement appeared in America in the mid-60s, when the USA fought a war in Vietnam. It was this war that provoked the growth of discontent, which resulted in a kind of peaceful protest.

Views and beliefs
The basis of the hippie's views was pacifism, originally directed against the Vietnam War. Then pacifism spread to other areas of life. Pacifism means non-violence, condemnation of hostilities.
Representatives of this subculture denied the rules imposed by social institutions, various formalities and hierarchies.
Hippies were of the opinion that, first of all, changes should occur in the human mind, and not in the structure of society. They extolled spiritual values and self-development.
The symbol of the hippie is a flower, hence the name "children of flowers." They believed that civilization in its development has come to a standstill. The only option may be to reunite with nature, enjoy the beauty of the natural world.
This point of view ultimately led to a number of negative consequences. Hippies abused psychoactive substances and alcohol, had an erratic sex life. The massive spread of hippie culture provoked a sexual revolution in the world.
The appearance of the hippies had its own characteristic features. Both sexes wore long hair in which flowers were woven. They preferred loose-fitting clothing, colorful colors, lots of baubles and jewelry.
