BIOGRAPHY OF CHRIS KELMY
Singer Chris Kelmi was born in 1955 on April 21 in Moscow. Chris's real name is Anatoly. Also, in some sources you can find information that his real name is Kalinkin (surname by mother). However, the singer’s first passport was already in the name of his father Kelmi. Chris will take the pseudonym later. There is a version that the name Chris came to mind after reading the novel "Solaris" by Stanislav Lem, whose main character was called Chris.
Already at the age of 4, little Anatoly began to make music. At 8, he was enrolled in a music school at the piano class. Also, the boy independently masters playing the guitar. In addition to music, Chris went in for sports. He trained in football, and then tennis schools. He even was one of the three strongest tennis players in Moscow.
At the age of 14, he graduates from high school and begins playing with friends in an amateur group called Sadko. Two years later, the group merges with another group of "Airport" under the leadership of Alexander Sitkovetsky and gets the new name "Leap Summer". This project is becoming quite successful. They perform at the festival "Singing Summer" and release three albums. The peak of the group’s popularity came at the end of the 70s, after which the group broke up. Meanwhile, Chris Kelmi successfully graduates from MIIT and enters graduate school and takes part in the construction of a tunnel in the Krasnodar Territory, but music remains his main area of activity. In 1979, Chris Kelmi together with his old friend Alexander Sitkovetsky create a group called Autograph. As part of the group, Kelmi performs at the festival "Spring Rhythms of Tbilisi", where they take second place. This was followed by several profitable offers of cooperation. Kelmi is recording several solo albums. At the same time, Chris enters the Rock Atelier group, leaving the Autograph group.
In 1983, Chris Kelmi enters the Music College. Gnesins. His teacher becomes Igor Bril. At the same faculty, Vladimir Kuzmin is studying with him. Chris meets Alla Pugacheva. He will later participate in the legendary "Christmas Meetings." Together with the poetess Margarita Pushkina, he will write one of the most famous songs of that time - "Closing the Circle". In the late 80s, Kelmi became famous for his song, which became a super hit of the USSR and neighboring countries - "Night Rendezvous". Chris Kelmi soon decides to pursue a career in the United States. But he could not consolidate his success there. In 2000, he returns to his homeland and currently works as a composer, composing custom-made music.
