Arno was born in 1921 in Yerevan, his parents were teachers. They arrived in the capital of Armenia with the territory occupied by Turkey, therefore they well knew what grief and war were.
Arno since childhood showed a love for music: at the age of three he was already playing the harmonica confidently. At the age of five, a talented boy was shown to the famous composer Aram Khachaturian, and he advised him to send him to a music school. Since then, Arno has not parted with music.
Even in elementary school, Babdzhanyan began to compose small plays, played the piano perfectly, and at age 12 he became the winner of the Republican contest of young performers.
After school, Arnault enters the conservatory, but he does not have enough scope, and he goes to Moscow, goes to the music school to Professor E. F. Gnesina, and at the same time studies in the composition class.
Two years later the Great Patriotic War broke out, and Arno returned to Yerevan, continued to study there. He studies and collaborates with celebrities such as Dmitry Shostakovich and Aram Khachaturian - they create a kind of "mighty bunch" in Armenia. After the war, the young composer returns to Moscow again. He travels to his homeland, but very rarely, and misses her very much. And every visit necessarily creates a new work, extremely successful.
He writes symphonies, piano concerts, violins, string quartets. Listeners especially loved his “Heroic Ballad” and “Armenian Rhapsody”. And in honor of Khachaturian, who blessed him to study music, he wrote the famous "Elegy".
Babajanyan’s Nocturne always aroused special love among the public. Musicians loved to perform it, the audience constantly asked to perform an encore. And the singer Joseph Kobzon persuaded Arno to remake Nocturne for a song for a long time. And only after the death of the composer, the poet Robert Rozhdestvensky created wonderful poems that fell on this music, and the song "Nocturne" sounded in the concert halls - it was a resounding success.
Popular music
In addition to symphonic music, Babajanyan wrote music for films and for pop. He collaborated with poets Andrei Voznesensky, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Leonid Derbenev and Eugene Evtushenko. This collaboration resulted in the creation of such hits as the “Queen of Beauty”, “Be with me”, “Blue Taiga”, “Ferris Wheel”, “The Best City of the Earth”, “Give Me Back Music”, “Song of First Love”. All the songs were undeniable hits, they were performed by the most famous singers of that time.
