In the face of the saints of the Orthodox Church there are two martyrs Vitaly, one Rev. and Rev. Martyr, glorified at the Bishops' Council of the Russian Church as the New Martyr of Russia. Named dates Vitaliev can fall on the following numbers: May 5th, May 11th, October 7th and February 7th.
May 5th is a day of remembrance of St. Vitaly of Alexandria. The saint lived in the VI century. The ascetic of piety chose for himself the monastic path of service to God. In fasting and prayer, the righteous spent time in the men's monastery. Having reached sixty years, the Monk Vitaly decided on a special feat. He took responsibility to help women suffering from the sin of fornication. He often saw girls, helped them financially from his labors, and exhorted to refrain from bodily lust. At night the saint prayed to God for the admonition of the fallen into sin. Seeing the virtuous pious life of the Monk Vitaly, many women left the path of sin, enlightened and married. After the death of the saint, his holy relics exuded various miracles.
The holy martyr Vitaly, whose memory was May 11, was converted to Christianity during a sermon on the island of Corfu of the holy apostles Jason and Sosipatra (apostles from among the seventy). The evangelists were able to preach the heart of Vitaly so strongly with his sermon that in his soul a love for Christ was kindled even until his death. The holy martyr Vitaly, along with other Christian believers, was ordered to be burnt alive by order of the ruler of the island in a cauldron with boiling sulfur for refusing to worship pagan gods.
Among the saints with the name Vitaly there is also our compatriot - the holy reverend martyr Vitaly Kokorev. Being in monastic tonsure, the righteous suffered death for the Orthodox faith in 1937. The memory of the saint is celebrated in the Russian Church on October 7th.
Another common Christian saint with the name Vitaly is a martyr who suffered around 164 in the Roman Empire. This saint Vitaliy is called Roman, and his memory is celebrated on February 7th.
