Scripture formed the basis of modern Christianity and is carefully preserved by clergy. Like many centuries ago, people can touch eternal truths through the books of the Old and New Testaments.

Scripture refers to the knowledge and experience gathered by believers in the books of the Old and New Testaments. It’s more common for a modern person to call scripture “the Bible.”
The Bible includes the Church’s canonized 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. Both Scriptures, according to scholars, were created by many authors. The books tell of the relationship of God with man, which existed and changed throughout history.
The Bible has been written for many centuries. Historians believe that the sacred narrative was created from the 13th century BC to the 1st century AD. The complex history of the formation of the human soul, doubts, exploits and prophecies - all this is described in sacred texts and transmitted from generation to generation.
The Old and New Testaments formed the basis for the activities of all traditional Christian Churches. They are the code of the laws of Christianity on which the life of many millions of people on Earth is based.
The Old Testament is written by the Jews. It contains many events from the life of the Jewish people over 1000 years. The Old Testament narrative began in the 13th century BC. The protagonists of these books are the Israeli rulers, the righteous, and the great prophets of Judea who lived before the birth of Christ.
The books of the Old Testament are canonized by the Great Sanhedrin and are sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They are divided into Law (Torah), Prophets (Neviin) and Scripture (Ktuvim).
Christians consider the whole Old Testament to be the preparation of humanity for the coming of Jesus Christ, although the Judaists have not accepted the New Testament as the canon of their faith. All 27 books of the New Testament Scripture are dedicated to the life and death of Christ.
The books on which modern Christianity is based were written from 40 to 100 after the birth of Christ. Their authorship is attributed to the Apostles because such inspired stories could only be written by people who were close to Christ.
The New Testament includes the four Gospels, the 21 Apostolic Epistle and the Apocalypse, the book of Revelation of John the Theologian. All manuscripts of the New Testament reached modern mankind in the ancient Greek language.
The New Testament in its current version was approved, that is, canonized, at the Ecumenical Councils of Christian churches from 200 to 419 years of our era. The modern texts of the New Testament were translated into Slavic by the equal Apostles Cyril and Methodius, and in Orthodox services are read in Church Slavonic.
