Religion is an inner belief in the existence of a supernatural higher power (God or gods), which is the subject of worship. Whatever religion prevails in a particular society, it has a definite influence on it.

1
Worldview function. Religion helps to build a certain picture of the world and find its place in it. Many phenomena of the surrounding world find their explanations in religion, sometimes competing with a scientific point of view (the theory of the creation of the world, of life after death, etc.).
2
Compensatory function. Often, religion compensates for the lack of secular communication by religious fellowship. A person communicates with God in prayers, repentance, and this makes him feel relieved - because a person can trust God with those secrets that he will not reveal to anyone else. Faith also compensates for the powerlessness of people: when a person does not have enough strength for something or just self-confidence, they can be asked from God. The thought of a supreme helper is encouraging and helps to move forward, to undertake business with greater confidence, with the hope of powerful help from above. And faith in supreme justice also helps to cope with the burden of responsibility. The main thing is not to let absolutely everything go by chance, deciding that "for all the will of God." In any religion, God expects from people, along with obedience, active action.
3
Regulatory function. A truly believing person builds his moral behavior on the basis of religion: he tries to follow the commandments, please God - and thereby leads a worthy, righteous lifestyle, seeks to do good deeds, and avoid sins. Thus, the scope of human freedom is limited at his own request, a certain system of moral values is being formed. As a rule, this system of values is formed by previous generations in the commandments, parables and canons: the modern man can only accept it.
4
Cultural function. Religion contributes to the development of culture, gives it additional depth, a special meaning. It encourages people to think, analyze their own activities. In ancient times, it was religion that contributed to the development of writing, typography, painting, architecture and architecture.
5
Communicative function. Religion is designed to bring people together, make them like-minded, help them find a common language and continue to communicate successfully. However, unfortunately, at present, the diversity of religions arouses discord - despite the fact that no religion calls for it. However, one faith often does not accept another, believing only itself to be true. Moreover, within one religion, such a phenomenon as sects is spreading more and more. These are small societies that in their own way (often quite freely) interpreted the foundations of religion and preach their faith, which also does not add unity to society.
