Every day the Orthodox Church recalls the memory of holy people. Every day of the year, the church calendar always lists the names of many ascetics of piety, known for their virtuous lives and strong professions of the Christian faith.
On November 15, in a new style, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the holy martyrs Akindin, Pegasius, Anempodist, Athos and Elpidiphor. The saints suffered torment in the 4th century AD in Persia during the reign of King Sapor II. Pigasius, Anempodist and Akindin were nobles under the Persian ruler. During the persecution of Christians in the first centuries, it was enough to convey to people who profess the faith of Christ. Nobles suffered from such a report.
The righteous were also charged with the fact that they openly preached Christianity, turning many people to the faith. For this, the king ordered the torture of the righteous. They tried to burn the saints at the stake, but the Lord preserved them: an angel appeared and freed the prisoners from prison bonds. After that, it was decided to burn the holy martyrs on a hot bed, but even this did not harm the righteous.
Seeing such miracles, many pagans believed in Christ. Among them were the warrior Athos and the nobleman Elpidifor (later they also suffered torment). An angry ruler, seeing how the Lord was saving his followers, he ordered Pigasius, Anempodistus and Akindinos to be sewn into bags and dumped into the sea, but even then the Lord kept his saints. However, the saints were destined to suffer martyrdom. The righteous were burned in a furnace.
On November 15, the Orthodox Church recalls the memory of the holy Rev. Markian of Cyrene. The ascetic became famous for the exploits of fasting and prayer, sought solitude. He worked in a small hut near the city of Cyrus. Soon, people began to come to Marcian in the hope of the beginning of a monastic life under the guidance of a saint. It was decided to arrange a small monastery. Rev. Markian had the gift of miracles. From his life it is also known that at night during the prayer of the saint the heavenly light dawned. The righteous died in 388.
Among the Russian saints whose memory is celebrated in the Church on November 15, it is worth mentioning the new martyrs. In 1918, the holy martyrs Konstantin Yurganov and Ananias Arestov suffered for the practice of the Orthodox faith. The saints had an eldership.
