In recent years, Hollywood filmmakers have noticeably increased interest in ancient mythology. Films began to appear on the screens, the main characters of which are the gods of Olympus and the legendary ancient Greek heroes. Among these films, the following films are the most spectacular.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (2010)
Chris Columbus's adventure fantasy film based on a book by Rick Riordan. The film is about the adventures of a teenager, Percy Jackson, who suffers from dyslexia and attention deficit disorder. As it turned out, these shortcomings, which caused Percy so much trouble, are actually signs of his semi-divine origin. Dyslexia is the result of Percy’s “tuning” into the ancient Greek language, and attention deficit disorder is warrior reflexes. The demigods who emit a special smell are hunted by mythical monsters. You can avoid death from the clutches of monsters only in a special training center called "Half-Blood Camp", created to train the demigods. After the attack of the furies and the clash with the Minotaur, Percy gets to this camp, where he expects many discoveries: Percy's best school friend turns out to be a satyr, and Percy's real father is a powerful god of the seas Poseidon. Due to its origin, Percy is immediately drawn into a dangerous confrontation that arose between his father and the main Olympic god Zeus.
Clash of the Titans (2010)
Fantasy thriller Louis Leterrier, based on the ancient Greek myth of Perseus. The fisherman and his wife find in the sea a casket with a dead woman and a child, whom they decide to raise as their own and give him the name Perseus. The matured Perseus witnesses how soldiers from the city of Argos destroy the statue of Zeus, thereby declaring war on the Olympic gods. The angry gods let the furies go over the people, because of which the foster family of Perseus perished. Perseus himself falls into the palace of King Argos Kefei, celebrating the liberation of people from the power of the gods. Kefey's wife compared her daughter Andromeda to Aphrodite, which made the Olympians even more angry. As a messenger of the gods, Hades arrived in Argos, who set a condition for Kepheus: either Andromeda would be sacrificed to the terrible sea monster Kraken, or Argos would be destroyed. Only Perseus can prevent this, whose father, as it turned out, is the king of the gods Zeus himself.
War of the Gods: Immortals (2011)
Fantasy thriller Tarsem Singh, based on the ancient Greek myths of Theseus and Titanomachia. Tyrannical and possessed by power, King Hyperion wants to destroy the Olympic gods who allowed his family to die. To do this, he decides to liberate from Tartarus the titans, cast down there by the gods millennia ago. For this, Hyperion needs the Epirus Bow made by the god of war, stored in one of the temples of Hellas. In search of a bow, the army of Hyperion gradually conquers Greece. Meanwhile, a young peasant Theseus, living with his mother in an unknown village, under the guidance of a local old man learns to own weapons. During the attack on the village, Hyperion is killed by Theseus's mother in front of his eyes, and Theseus sends himself into slavery to the salt mines. In captivity, Theseus meets the oracle girl Fedra, telling Theseus that he is the chosen one, who is destined to free Hellas.
Wrath of the Titans (2012)
The sequel to The Clash of the Titans, filmed by Jonotan Libesman. Events unfold 10 years after the victory of Perseus over the Kraken. Perseus leads the simple life of a fisherman and brings up the son of Elea. Zeus comes to Perseus, telling his son that people's faith in the gods has weakened, which is why the Olympians began to lose strength. Tartarus, where the gods concluded their enemies of the Titans, can no longer hold them. Zeus asks his son for help in the upcoming battle between the gods and the titans, but Perseus refuses. The god of the underworld Hades and the god of war Ares make a deal with the main titan Kronos: they help him to free himself, and in return Kronos saves them eternal life. Zeus and the sea god Poseidon are trapped, and Kronos is freed. In addition to the titans, monsters break out from Tartarus, one of which attacks the village where Perseus lives. The hero understands that he will have to stop the titans, otherwise the whole world will plunge into chaos.
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (2013)
The second part of the film "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief", shot by Thor Freudenthal based on the novel by Rick Riordan "Sea of Monsters." In the Half-Blood Camp, the young demigod Percy Jackson meets his half-brother Cyclops Tyson. Hermes son Luc Castellan, who dreams of overthrowing the gods, attacks the camp and poison the magic tree that protects its borders from monsters. This tree was created from the daughter of Zeus Talia Grace, who was killed by a monster. Athena's daughter Annabeth Chase finds out that only the Golden Fleece can save the tree, in search of which the director of the camp sends Ares's daughter Clarissa La Roux. But Percy Jackson is about to find Fleece first.
