In Russia, there are many Cossack communities, each of which has a personal charter and certain orders fixed by traditions. The conditions for joining any of these organizations have their own characteristics. But there is a single document developed by the Council for Cossacks, which stipulates general rules for those wishing to become a member of this community.

Instruction manual
1
Write a statement addressed to the chieftain of that Cossack society into which you wish to join. It is compiled either in free form, or according to the model established in a given community. In the statement, ask the ataman of the community to accept you into the Cossacks, clearly arguing your request. Indicate the true reasons that prompt you to this act. Mention your political and civic views. Russian citizenship and reaching eighteen years of age are prerequisites for accepting you into the ranks of Cossacks. Therefore, in your statement, focus attention on this point.
2
Receive and attach to your application the petitions of two Cossacks of the community you intend to join (they are written in writing). It is best if they are people who know you well and are capable of an objective characterization of your personality. You will also need copies of documents that confirm the information you specified in the application (copy of the passport of the Russian Federation, etc.). Two photographs in 3x4 centimeter format will also be needed. According to the rules of the majority of Cossack societies, a personal record is filed for each member. All submitted documents will be stored in it.
3
The decision to admit you to the Cossack ranks is made by the general meeting of members of the entire group. As a rule, it takes about a month to make this decision. If the meeting approves your candidacy, you will be assigned a probationary period, after which, and in the absence of any complaints in your direction, you will receive a Cossack certificate. A military chieftain should hand it in a solemn atmosphere. During the trial period, you will need to study the charter and traditions of society, upon its completion - to acquire the appropriate form of the established form and start life with a new status. Remember the Cossack charter and do not violate it after you become a full member of the community.
