The film "Rita's Last Tale, " directed by Renata Litvinova, became one of three works presented in the main MIFF competition from Russian directors. The main theme of the picture was Death, the role of which was played by the actress herself. By the way, in this work she also acted as a producer, costume designer and screenwriter. Critics took Litvinova’s film “The Last Tale of Rita” ambiguously, opinions were very divided.
The film by Renata Litvinova became one of the most anticipated films in the MIFF competition program. It was demonstrated in the hall of the cinema "Artistic" and attracted maximum attention: there was not a single empty seat. After the demonstration of the picture, a lot of people gathered in the lobby. Most of the people were critics who expressed their opinion about the film "The Last Tale of Rita."
Impressions of the tape are very divided. Someone considered the picture "The Last Tale of Rita", the parable of death, the opening film, they said that it was shot at a high artistic level and that only great masters are not afraid of such a sharp and delicate topic. At the other extreme, opinions about the “shamanic” share in the film were predominant, critics spoke about the alternation of beautiful pictures, which in no way fit into a common frame. Constant smoking in the frame was also especially blamed.
For example, Maria Bezruk, who is a member of the board of film critics and film critics, took the picture of Renata Litvinova's “The Last Tale of Rita” as a film for viewing in a narrow family circle. The critic expressed the opinion that, along with full-length tapes, this work should not be shown, and, moreover, apply for any awards. Maria Bezruk even allowed herself to call the picture "thoughtful crap."
The critic Litvinova’s critic Rita Wamm perceived softer. She believes that the actress - director has achieved a level where she can simply be in the frame and behind the scenes and not do anything significant. The film critic suggested that Renata Litvinova wanted to create a movie, after watching which the viewer himself had to figure out what the director wanted to say.
On the other hand, Marina Latysheva was delighted with the dialogues and accurate life hits in the picture presented. The film critic even had a question: wasn’t it scary for Renate Litvinova to make and act in such a movie?
The picture itself is based on the fact that the heroine of Litvinova, Death (an employee of the morgue), is closely following in the hospital Margarita Gauthier (performed by actress Olga Kuzina). Active development of the storyline is not observed, the main forces during the filming were thrown to create a surrealistic environment and the introduction of strange characters (for example, stuffed animals) in the body of the picture.
