The day of the Holy Trinity is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on the fiftieth day after Easter. This is one of the twelve major holidays of Orthodoxy. There is a pious tradition of decorating Orthodox churches with greens on this day.
The Day of the Holy Trinity (Holy Pentecost) has always been especially revered by the Russian people. On this solemn day, special festive services are held in all Orthodox churches. Certain prayers are read in which the priest asks God for divine grace for all believers.
On the day of the Holy Trinity, many Orthodox churches have a special atmosphere. There is a tradition to decorate the premises with grass, as well as various fresh flowers, beautiful green bushes and even small trees.
Entering the decorated Orthodox church on the feast of the Holy Trinity, a person can observe that the entire floor is covered with grass. Due to this, the temple has a pleasant smell of mowed grass.
Believers before the Trinity Day decorate the icons with fresh flowers. Green bushes or small trees are placed in the window openings. Very often birch is used as a symbol of the nature of Russia.
The altar is decorated with grass and trees. The royal gates (the central gates of the altar), as well as the side doors are decorated with birch trees.
There is a pious tradition after giving the feast of the Holy Trinity to collect grass from the temple. Believers can steam consecrated grass and use it for medicinal purposes.
