When filling out various forms of documentation, one of the most common issues is citizenship. But not everyone knows how to correctly indicate it so that subsequently you do not have to fill out the questionnaire again.
Instruction manual
1
When filling out the questionnaire in Russian, write down the name of your country as citizenship. For example, in the visa application form, the wording “Russia”, “Russian Federation” or even the abbreviation “RF” will be appropriate. The permissible form may also include an indication of citizenship as a characteristic, for example, “Russian” or “Russian woman”.
2
If you have or previously had other citizenship, please indicate it if necessary in the application form. An exception is the situation with people born in the USSR. If they continue to live in Russia and have local citizenship, no further clarification is required. If necessary, explain in the appropriate paragraph of the question why you received or refused another citizenship. Also, in a number of situations, you will need to clarify the status of your second citizenship in Russia. According to the laws of the country, a Russian may have dual or two citizenships. The difference is that in the second case, citizenship of another state is not taken into account in Russia. Dual citizenship is obtained only by people who have moved to a country that has a special agreement with Russia on such topics.
3
In the foreign language application form, write down your citizenship according to local rules. In the English-language form in the Citizenship section, it is most appropriate to write Russian Federation. Please note this. that in many European languages there is no distinction between the words “citizenship” and “nationality”. For example, this is the case in French, where the word nationalité can mean both. Nevertheless, when it comes to an official document or questionnaire, you should indicate your citizenship. If you are not sure how to correctly fill out the questionnaire in any foreign language, it is best to ask for a paper in Russian or English. This will protect you from misunderstanding your questions.
