"Prometheus" - one of the most anticipated projects of the 2012th year - holds a secret that is not obvious to the average viewer. The film, in fact, is the backstory (or offshoot) of the cult series "Alien", and provides answers to many questions from fans that have accumulated over fifteen years since the last part.
Instruction manual
1
The starting point is the 1979 film "Alien". A ship working for Wayland Corporation receives a request for help from an unknown planet. Having descended to the surface, the heroes find a huge transporter of an unknown race of aliens, on board of which are stored dozens of xenomorph eggs (that is, in fact, “strangers”) and a dead three-meter pilot, which has grown into a control seat. No word is said about the alien in the film, but Ridley Scott called the character "Jockey".
2
In Prometheus, the action develops in the same setting, but earlier by about 30 years. People have already created synthetics (humanoid robots, found in all parts of the series). Wayland Corporation already exists and sends an expedition to a distant star in search of creatures that created the human race. Arriving at the place, the astronauts find recognizable bodies of jockeys: it turns out that the skeleton-like appearance is just a spacesuit under which the aliens are quite similar to people. At the same time, in one of the rooms on wall engravings, you can see a creature that is vaguely reminiscent of a xenomorph. The entire fauna of the planet presented in the film has a structure similar to xenomorphs; multiple parallels can be drawn.
3
It turns out that the object found by people is a military base on which dozens of ships are located. From this we can conclude that the transport found in Alien was military, and the xenomorphs themselves were weapons (this version was repeatedly mentioned in all films of the series).
4
The director in an interview repeatedly stated that he was making a film about jockeys, not strangers. Therefore, the main part of the action is aimed at telling an independent story - it is a development of the universe, but has no direct connection with the original quadrilogy.
5
One of the jockeys in Prometheus is alive. In the finale, he enters into a fight with a huge squid-shaped creature and dies, after which one of the main intrigues of the picture is revealed: an adult xenomorph, which is different from all that was shown in previous films, breaks out from the body of the jockey just before the captions. Since the topic of “spacesuits” is raised several times in Prometheus, it is possible that jockeys are something like a “shell” for a special kind of intelligent xenomorphs, but this cannot be argued for sure.
