Instruction manual
1
Glossary is a dictionary of certain concepts or terms, united by a common specific topic.
This term comes from the Greek word "glossa", which means language, speech. In ancient Greece, strange words in texts, the interpretation of which was given nearby in the margins, were called glosses. The collection of glosses later became known as the glossary.
2
What is the purpose of the glossary?
The glossary is necessary so that anyone reading your work could easily find an explanation for the tricky words and complex terms that your document is teeming with.
3
How to compile a glossary?
To start, carefully read and familiarize yourself with your work. Surely, you will find in it many different terms that are available on this topic.
Once you have identified the most common terms, you should make a list of them. The words in this list should be arranged in a strictly alphabetical order, since the glossary is nothing more than a dictionary of specialized terms.
After this, work begins on the compilation of glossary articles. A glossary article is a definition of a term. It consists of two parts:
1. the exact wording of the term in the nominative case;
2. The substantive part, voluminously revealing the meaning of this term.
4
When compiling a glossary, it is important to adhere to the following rules:
- strive for maximum accuracy and reliability of information;
- try to indicate the correct scientific terms and avoid all kinds of jargon. If you use one, give him a brief and understandable explanation;
- When setting out several points of view in an article about a controversial issue, do not accept any of these positions. A glossary is just a statement of the facts;
- also do not forget to give an example of the context in which the term may be used;
- If desired, not only hotel words and terms, but also whole phrases can be included in the glossary.
