Great Lent is the preparation of an Orthodox person for a bright Easter. During fasting, there is a cleansing and turning to God, as a result of which one becomes better.
Great Lent Beginning
Lent begins after Shrovetide and lasts for 48 days. The dates of the beginning and end of Lent change annually. On forgiven Sunday, the final day of Shrovetide, you need to forgive all your loved ones, relatives and friends, and also ask for forgiveness from those whom you could offend, which will allow you to enter Great Lent with a cleansed and truly open soul. Lent opens "Clean Monday", the day when Orthodox Christians traditionally clean their homes, go to the bathhouse and put on clean clothes. The end of the fast marks the great feast of the Resurrection of Christ.
The meaning of Lent
Everyone who decides to keep Lent performs a small feat within himself. During the fasting period, a person must not only eat right, but also pray intensely, and also try to rethink his life values and priorities. In Great Lent, you should try to forgive all offenders and not keep evil on your loved ones, be restrained, humble and calm. It is also forbidden to perform marital duties, attend social events and have fun in every way.
Do not think that only by limiting yourself to food you observe Lent. It is also worthwhile to refrain from negativity, not to deceive and not even think bad about others.
The process of physical abstinence is aimed at fully meeting Easter, feeling its significance and greatness.
