Every year on June 14, the whole Earth celebrates World Blood Donor Day. On this day, tens of thousands of saved people say "many thanks" to those who share the most precious with them, namely their blood.
Absolutely disinterestedly and voluntarily donate their blood to someone not every person is capable of. Due to this problem of misunderstanding of the seriousness and importance of donation, as well as various misconceptions on this account, there is now a shortage of donated blood all over the world. According to estimates, it can reach 50%.
According to statistics from WHO - the World Health Association - 79 and 80 countries with insufficient supply of donated blood are developing. This includes Russia, where there are only 14 donors per 1000 people. In developed countries, donors per 1000 people already account for more than 30. China (China) is behind us - there the number of donors is 5-10 people.
Thus, the main goal of World Blood Donor Day is to increase blood supply by attracting volunteers who are ready to donate blood regularly. On this day, in various cities around the world, volunteers congratulate honored donors and talk about how important it is to move away from paid donation. After all, volunteers donate blood in the first place in order to help other people. They don’t think about remuneration.
The tradition of celebrating this day was born relatively recently. The World Health Organization organized the first World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2004. In 2010, WHO and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies adopted the Global Strategy for Action. This document spells out actions for the development of the donor movement in the world until 2020. By this time, all WHO countries should receive donated blood from volunteer donors free of charge.
The donor movement around the world began to develop actively later. A few months ago they passed a bill called “On the donation of blood and its components, ” which sets up payments for volunteer donors. Thanks to this project, the All-Russian Blood Bank appeared. In addition to World Blood Donor Day, April 20 marks National Blood Donor Day. In 1840, the first blood transfusion was performed on this day in Russia.
In 2012, the National Fund for Health Development in Moscow organized Donor Days:
- June 14 - at the SEC DZM; address - Polikarpov street 14, building 2;
- June 16 - in the defense industry at the 1st City Hospital; Address - Leninsky Prospekt 10, Building 1.
All participating in the days of the fund donors received informational materials about the donation. Donors were awarded souvenirs with the symbols of the Blood Service and the project “Donate blood - save a life!”.
Some volunteers came to donate blood for the first time, there are also people who come to such events regularly. The National Health Fund hopes that regularly held donor days will help people build a conscious understanding that blood should be donated regularly because many thousands of people need it every day. Stocks are constantly consumed, so they need to be replenished.
