The IDF ("Zwa Hagan Le Israel"), which means "Israel Defense Forces", was founded a couple of weeks after the founding of the state itself, in 1948. Many years have passed, but every citizen of this small proud state respects the honor of repaying a debt to his homeland. However, a citizen of another country, subject to certain conditions, can also serve in the Israeli army.

Instruction manual
1
For numerous volunteers, there are several programs that are implemented by the IDF Mobilization Directorate and the Sohnut World Jewish Agency. Only boys and girls with Jewish roots, aged 18-25, living in any country in the world can serve in the Israeli army.
2
To participate in the program, contact the leadership of these organizations or the local Jewish community, who will tell you where to go in the future.
3
Confirm Jewry: Provide “ktubu” - this is the parents’marriage contract that they entered into upon marriage. Such a document is issued in the synagogue, you can go there.
4
Also provide the birth certificate of one of the parents, which clearly shows his Jewish nationality (military ID or old-style civil passport). Among other things, it is necessary to get support and recommendations from the Jewish community at the place of residence.
5
If everything is in order with the reference documents and the program management concludes that you really have some right to repatriation, 6 weeks before the call you will be invited to the call point in Israel.
6
At the recruiting station, it is necessary to go through a medical commission, following which a psychological profile will be determined and a referral will be issued to combat or rear units of the Israeli army. Then you need to take an intensive Hebrew course.
7
After the call, the soldier is waiting for the young fighter's course for 4.5 months in combat units. Remember that volunteers serve in the Israeli army for 14.4 months.
8
Volunteer soldiers can live on the territory of a military base or, like many indigenous Israelis, can rent suitable lodgings nearby, since serving in the Israeli army involves weekends, days off, and even holidays.
9
It is important to remember that "hazing" in the Israeli army is a criminal offense, but a secret hierarchy is still present.
note
Before joining the Israeli army on a voluntary basis, check with the Russian Embassy if service in the army of another state will affect Russian citizenship.
Useful advice
According to the laws of Israel, all citizens of the country are subject to appeal, including those who have dual citizenship, reside in the territory of the Jewish state permanently or temporarily reside in another country. This rule also applies to repatriated Russians.
