All issues related to obtaining Russian citizenship are regulated by the Federal Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". Before applying for Russian citizenship, renounce the citizenship of Ukraine.

Citizenship in Ukraine is handled by the Russian Consulate in Ukraine. The right to a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship (for 6 months) is granted to persons in whom one of the parents is a citizen of Russia and lives in the Russian Federation, people who have been married to a citizen of Russia for at least 3 years, persons who have a child - a citizen of the Russian Federation, military personnel who served by contact in the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

You can also apply for a simplified procedure if you were a citizen of the USSR and now do not have citizenship, or if you received your profession in universities of the Russian Federation after July 1, 2002. Pass the state exam for knowledge of the Russian language.

Alas, if you do not fall into any of these categories, then you are applying for citizenship on a common basis. To do this, first issue a temporary registration, and after 5 years you will have the right to become a citizen of Russia.

To apply for temporary registration, write to the department of the Office of the Federal Migration Service a request to provide you with a temporary residence permit. After issuing it, you legally live in Russia for 5 years, and then apply for Russian citizenship.
