Instruction manual
1
To be able to stay in Finland for more than three months, a foreigner needs to obtain a residence permit (residence permit) in this country. According to Finnish law, this right can be granted in case of family reunification (moving children to parents or parents to children, marriage with a Finnish citizen), when obtaining a work permit, when studying at a state educational institution or during repatriation, that is, if the applicant has Finnish roots.
2
A residence permit can be of different types and is issued for various periods. The minimum period is 12 months. A residence permit can only be obtained through state bodies. First, you must submit an appropriate application to the Embassy of Finland in your country of residence (for Russian citizens in Moscow or to the Consulate General of St. Petersburg).
3
The decision to issue a residence permit is made by the Finnish Migration Service. The applicant’s application is considered within 1.5 to 11 months depending on the justifications presented to him. The fastest and easiest way is to consider applications related to moving to a place of study or work. If the application is approved, the initial permission to stay in the country is always issued for a limited period of one year, regardless of how many years training or work is planned.
4
After a year of stay in Finland, you must submit an application for the extension of a residence permit. Permanent residence permit can be issued only after 4 years of residence, provided that the person is in Finland continuously, that is, more than 6 months a year.
5
Permanent (long-term) permission to stay in the country can be obtained at a time for a period of not more than 4 years, then it will have to be renewed. A person who has married a Finnish citizen or has a long-term employment contract with an existing Finnish company can apply for a permanent residence permit.
note
It is important to keep in mind that owning real estate in Finland does not give you the right to obtain a residence permit in this country.
Useful advice
Of great importance for obtaining a residence permit in Finland is knowledge of the Finnish language. Regardless of the purpose of the stay (study, work, marriage), the Migration Service tries to give the right to stay to people who already speak Finnish. Therefore, it is advisable for the embassy to obtain a certificate of completion of the Finnish language courses.
