Relatives and friends living on opposite sides of the ocean, in modern conditions, have almost unlimited opportunities for unhindered communication. Mobile communications, a worldwide network and satellite communication channels allow you to see and hear each other at any time, but you can still transmit something only with "physical" contact. You can send a parcel from, for example, the USA only by mail or courier service.

Instruction manual
1
The easiest and most reliable way to send a parcel from the USA to Russia is to use the services of the US state mail (USPS is an analogue of Russian Post). There are several mailing options: USPS First Class, USPS Priority, USPS Express, and USPS Global Express. Here we only briefly say how they differ. For example, the USPS First Class, unlike all the others, does not make it possible to track the movement of a package via the Internet, and it will take 20 to 40 days to expect it.
2
The fastest way is to get the package using USPS Global Express (5-15 days). The difference also lies in the services that deliver the parcel already in the territory of the Russian Federation: Russian Post, EMS or FedEx. By the way, FedEx is one of the commercial courier services in the United States, which will be discussed later.
3
The second way to send a parcel from the USA to the Russian Federation is to resort to the services of commercial courier services. These include, as mentioned earlier, Fedex, as well as UPS and DHL. They make it possible to send heavier and bulk packages than the USPS allows. Advantages are the assignment of a tracking number to each parcel and the reduction of the delivery time to 3-5 business days.
4
When sending a parcel from the USA to the Russian Federation, you should know that there is a so-called “duty-free limit”. With all delivery methods, you can send for free 1000 euros or a parcel weighing 31 kg once a month. The customs duty will be 30% of the amount in excess of 1000 euros (but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg).
5
If you want to avoid customs duties or reduce them, do not overcharge the parcel and try to split one large parcel into several small ones.
6
If the parcel is nevertheless subject to customs clearance, customs should inform you of this. You are entitled to make a customs payment 15 days from now. Fines are charged for extra time, so it’s important to keep a notice.
7
In connection with the growth of thefts in Russia, it is better to insure the parcel when sending it. While waiting, track its movement over the Internet using a special number. Having learned that the parcel has arrived at its destination, it is better to receive it personally at the Russian Post office, even if the courier should bring it.
8
Call the mail in advance and warn that you are going to do this. Put a signature on the notice only when you inspect the received parcel and make sure that everything is in order with it.
