It is impossible to be a cultured person and not to know the outstanding works of art that mankind has created throughout its existence. Art is one of the oldest ways to express your attitude to the world and present it to the audience through the prism of your own perception.
Instruction manual
1
Genre drawings and images of people and animals are found on the rocks of caves of primitive people. Already then, a person had a need to share with others his attitude and well-known phenomena. Due to its fragility, the paintings are short-lived, unlike sculptures. The oldest of them that are stored in art museums is only about five hundred to six hundred years old. But it often happens that looking at them, and even much later canvases, we do not understand the drama of the plots and the names of the paintings do not tell us anything. But knowing what the painting is about is very important in order to understand the artist’s intent and the message that he left to us, his descendants.
2
Everything seems to be clear with portraits, self-portraits, landscapes and still lifes - the artist simply took a “photograph” with paints and brushes, captured an instant from the life of nature, people. Even the genre scenes that we see in the paintings of the great masters of the past, we are relatively understandable and even sometimes seem quite modern.
3
Biblical subjects, on the subject of which many wrote, are another matter. These subjects were popular and demanded by the main customers of artists - the Church, which decorated the walls of temples with their paintings. Ordinary customers - wealthy and philanthropists also wanted to hang religious themes on the walls of their house chapels and castle walls. Due to this, most of the paintings reflect the most diverse, widely known and not very popular subjects that were found in the Bible. To understand their content, read this Book, and much will become clear to you in the picturesque scenes.
4
Another layer of paintings - those that are difficult to understand and explain without knowing the story. They depict famous historical plots and a picture, in fact, depicts not only what we see painted on it, but a whole chain of events that cannot be seen with the eyes - you just need to know them. Study history and you look with completely different eyes at those paintings that you previously passed indifferently. The same applies to paintings depicting fairy tales and plots of legends.
5
Two more types of paintings that many do not understand are abstract and surreal. It all depends on you. In such paintings, you can well see even what the author of the picture did not expect. If your imagination is developed and your mind is flexible enough, you will like them and will understand them, because the artist has given you the right to explain their contents to yourself.
