The search for a serviceman is carried out if there is at least a minimum of necessary information: name, surname, patronymic, date and place of birth, etc. This information will be useful in determining the current place of residence / service of the military or the place of his burial. The search for soldiers and officers of the Soviet army who were missing during the years of World War II was associated with special difficulties. To try to find a relative or acquaintance, an employee or previously served in the army, you must do the following:
You will need
A computer with Internet access, paper, a pen, at least a minimum of information about the military man and a lot of patience.
Instruction manual
1
Find out the place of residence of a person and the place of his call. As a rule, documents confirming the sending of a conscript to a specific military unit are stored in the RVK (regional military commissariats).
2
If letters from the wanted person are preserved, you can determine the number of the unit or unit from them. In addition, the stamp will indicate the address of the settlement from which the letter was sent.
3
When searching for soldiers who went missing during World War II, their surviving photographs can help. According to them, you can determine the title of the wanted person (or at least belonging to the command or rank and file). If relatives have preserved orders or medals or orders with which the employee was awarded for special merits, then according to the data indicated on the awards, you can try to determine the number of the military unit. In particularly successful cases, it will be possible to find out what feat a wanted person performed and to obtain a description of his military merits.
4
Use the Internet search engines, where there are a number of databases, or make a request to the archives of the Ministry of Defense (the central archive is in Moscow, the naval archive is in the city of Gatchina, and the border service archive is in the city of Pushkino, Moscow Region).
note
When a soldier moves to another region, the personal file and account card are sent to the military registration and enlistment office at the place of new registration.
Useful advice
When searching for those who were in German captivity, you should send a request to the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense (TsAMO). Personal cards for the released prisoners of the camps were transferred by Germany to the departments of the Ministry of State Security back in 1946-48.
