Every year on one of the days of the military glory of Russia - September 8 - the victory of the Russian army in the battle of Borodino in 1812 is celebrated. In 2012, the bicentennial of the victory of Russian troops over Napoleon is celebrated. Due to the round date, the holiday has been given federal status, which means: preparations for the event are supervised, and the President of the Russian Federation himself watches how the Military Glory Day will be held in Moscow. The head of the country even created a special group responsible for preparing the event.
Festive events dedicated to the Day of Military Glory began in Moscow a few weeks before the official holiday. On August 13, a three-month horse campaign was launched from Poklonnaya Gora, dedicated to the feat of soldiers of the Russian army. The name of the campaign speaks for itself: "Moscow - Paris." The cavalry consists of 23 Cossacks dressed in military uniforms at the beginning of the 19th century. They will cross six European countries, in each of which spectators expect small theatrical performances.
On September 1, as part of the celebration of the Day of Military Glory in Moscow, the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened on Revolution Square. The new state museum has an unusual design: it is a two-level structure with a transparent roof. Also on September 1, the festival "1812. Age and People" was held in the Moscow park "Krasnaya Presnya". And on the Day of Military Glory itself, an event will be held in this place illustrating the fighting between the Russians and the French. The main participants will be the staff of historical reconstruction clubs.
The main place of celebrations will be the Borodino field itself. The opening ceremony will take place in the village of Shevardino, at the command post of Napoleon. An important stage in the festive program of the Day of Military Glory in Moscow will be a parade with the participation of military-historical clubs. More than 120 organizations from Russia, the USA, Canada and European countries will be involved in this event. Interestingly, among the participants there will be direct descendants of the soldiers of 1812.
