Childhood and youth
Ilya Sergeevich Glazunov was born in 1930 in Leningrad. His family was educated, his father taught at the institute, and his mother received a good upbringing, being the daughter of a real state adviser. From childhood, little Ilya was drawn to painting and even went to study at the art school. But the war confused the aspiring artist's plans. The blockade began. The whole family of Ilya died, and he, exhausted, was taken out of Leningrad in 1942 along the Road of Life. The future great Russian artist survived, for which he often thanked fate.
Creative way
After the war, Glazunov returned to Leningrad and entered the Repin Institute of Painting. And in 1956, Ilya Sergeyevich received the first prize at the international art competition in Prague. So the first recognition came to Glazunov.
The creative path of the artist was not easy. At times, Glazunov clashed with the authorities, who destroyed his paintings, considering them anti-Soviet. And at times, on the contrary, he was friends with the authorities - in 2012, Ilya Sergeyevich became the confidant of President Vladimir Putin, and the warm relationship between two talented men remained for life.
The master worked in different styles and genres. At one time, he painted portraits of famous figures of the Soviet Union, and also traveled abroad, where he was posed by popular actresses at that time. Then Glazunov switched to theatrical art, for a long time drawing scenery for the performances of the Bolshoi Theater. In 2004, the Ilya Glazunov Gallery was opened, where his numerous works were collected.
Ilya Sergeevich Glazunov also gained fame as a talented teacher and organizer. He founded the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the prestigious art university of our country.
Ilya Sergeyevich was a believer, and the Orthodox Church was very kind to him. In addition to numerous state awards, Glazunov’s piggy bank contains the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh and the Order of St. Andrei Rublev.
