The beginning of a sports career
Martina was born in 1980 on September 30 in the Slovak city of Kosice. Melanie, the mother of the future sports celebrity, was one of the ten best tennis players in Czechoslovakia. She became the first coach of her daughter.
Martina received her first racket for a biennium. Then the baby was interested in skiing, but still tennis won.
Five-year-old Hingis actively participated in children's competitions. Soon, the girl's parents broke up.
Mother remarried to Swiss programmer Andres Zogg. The newly formed family moved to a small town in the north of Switzerland, Trubbach.

A real triumph for the tennis princess of 1997. Of the seventy-five matches, Hingis lost only five. The young athlete finished the season on the first line of the world ranking.
