Biography
In September 1991, a daughter was born in the family of Stere and Tanya Halep, who was named Simon. The girl grew up an active child and was fond of sports. When she was four years old, her older brother Nicolae took her sister to the tennis section. She really liked this kind of sport, and she began to deal only with it.
Already at the age of 13, she actively participated in senior junior tournaments and achieved impressive results there. The National Tennis Federation of Romania already had high hopes for the promising tennis player.
Career
In 2007, Simone made it to the Grand Slam competition, but could not reach great heights. After just a year, she was able to defeat one of the best tennis players - Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the Australian Open. At the age of 16, she already hit the top 100 tennis players in the world.
In 2009, the girl took a decisive step: for the sake of a sports career, Simone underwent breast reduction surgery. Perhaps this is what affected further success in tennis.
In 2012, she first participated in the Olympic Games, which were held in London. Simone participated in both singles and doubles. Unfortunately, this did not bring any results; the athlete left the tournament in the very first matches.
The first truly great heights she managed to achieve in 2014. The girl reached the semifinals of the prestigious tournament in Wimbledon. Also reached the finals of “Roland Garos”, where she missed the victory in the match with Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova. And a year later, Halep retired in the semifinals of the US Open.
In 2018, at the championship in Australia, reaching the final, Simon lost the victory to the more experienced athlete from Denmark - Caroline Wozniacki. The second tournament of the same year, the open championship of France, brought Simone Halep the first long-awaited trophy - in the final battle for the prize, she met the American Sloan Stevens and beat her 2-1.
In mid-2017, Simone Halep achieved the best result in her career, she led the world ranking of tennis players. Today, Halep continues to perform and actively participates in various tournaments. In early 2019, she lost the lead in the ranking to the ambitious Japanese Naomi Osaka, who won the Australian Open the day before.
