Grisham’s novels are very reliable, because most of them are based on real stories. His best-selling books Time to Kill, Client, and Firm formed the basis for Hollywood movie scripts.
Biography
John Grisham was born in American Jonesboro in 1955. His father grew cotton on his farm, and his mother was a housewife. The boy grew up athletic and wanted to do baseball professionally. However, one of the matches was injured, and the dream had to be abandoned.
The Grisham family was very religious, and this circumstance greatly influenced the boy. He even wanted to become a missionary to preach Christianity.
From an early age, John found a feasible job and helped his family financially. At 17, he became a road worker - their team laid asphalt. Once among two brigades a dispute ensued, it came to firing. After that, Grisham seriously thought about choosing a profession: he realized that he did not want to be a simple worker.
He applied to Mississippi Northwest College. I didn’t finish my studies, I went to university in Cleveland. Finally he became an accountant with a college degree. However, he was so pleased to learn new things that he soon began to study at the School of Law, which was at the University of Mississippi. Jurisprudence was very interested in him, he began to engage in this science seriously, and by 1981 he became a doctor of science in civil law.
Literary career
Grisham worked as a lawyer for ten years, and all these years the stories of novels ripened in his head, because what the victims told in the courtroom was very impressive. It was in court that John came up with the idea of the first novel, “It's time to kill.” He printed it with great difficulty, after almost thirty publishers failures.
In 1991, he wrote the novel "Firma", in the story of which the lawyer collects incriminating evidence on his dishonest colleagues. The novel brought the writer great fame. One and a half million books were sold in two years, the novel itself appeared on the bestseller list and lasted there for almost a year.
After such success, Grisham quit his legal career and devoted himself entirely to literary creation. Since then, he has written many legal thrillers that have enjoyed continued success.
A special place in his work belongs to the collection about Theodore Boone, a graduate of lawyers. The first story was so loved by readers that Grisham was forced to write a sequel, and the result was a collection of six parts about the same character.
