Four Mother of God holidays are among the most important Christian celebrations. Among them: the Nativity of the Virgin, Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, Annunciation and Assumption of the Mother of God. These holidays are called twenties.
In the first month of the liturgical year (September), the Church remembers the birthday of the Virgin. In the Orthodox statutory tradition, this holiday is celebrated on September 21 (new style).
The next twelfth Mother of God holiday falls on December 4th. On this day, the Introduction to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is solemnly celebrated. In this event, the fulfillment of the vow given by the parents of the Virgin Mary Joachim and Anna to God is manifested. According to the vow, in the case of the birth of a child, pious parents should devote a child to the service of God. And so it happened.
On April 7, the Orthodox Church remembers the event of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This holiday is dedicated to the good news of the birth of the Savior of the world. It is this promise that the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary proclaimed.
At the end of August (the 28th in the new style), the Orthodox Church remembers the day of the Assumption of the Mother of God. Christianity proclaims that the Virgin Mary, even after death, does not leave the human race behind her. This feast is preceded by the Holy Assumption Lent.
We can distinguish other large Mother of God Orthodox holidays. For example, the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary (October 14), the days of remembrance of the miraculous theotokos icons (the memory of the Kazan image of the Virgin Mary - November 4 and July 21).
