Biography
In October 1964, the future genius of mysticism and fiction Guillermo Del Toro was born in a small Mexican town. From early childhood, the boy was raised by his grandmother. She was a convinced Catholic and instilled religious belief in her grandson. At her insistence, the boy did not go to a regular school, but to a Catholic seminary.
Guillermo himself was very interested in everything paranormal and mystical. He enjoyed reading mystical stories and watching horror films with great pleasure. Guillermo’s Night of the Living Dead is one of childhood’s most favorite films.
After graduating from school, the future director entered the local university, which he subsequently graduated with honors. Along the way, he learned makeup skills from one of the horror masters Dick Smith.
Career
After high school, Del Toro worked as a make-up artist for about 10 years, and later created his own special effects studio. It was his work that was used in the comedy horror series Tales from the Crypt.
He first appeared as a producer in 1986, in one of the Mexican TV shows. He also made several short films, which were not very popular. The first serious work took place only in 1993. Guillermo became a director and screenwriter at the same time in the film "Chronos". The film tells about a device that gives the owner immortality. The budget of the picture was huge at that time, two million dollars. Del Toro received the Mercedes-Benz Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2007, the famous director received the Goya Award, the Spanish Award, for the film Labyrinth of Faun. Before receiving the most prestigious award in cinema, Del Toro shot 17 films and became a producer in 19 films. In 2017, the film “Water Form” was released, for which Guillermo received two Oscars at once: “For the best film” and “For the director's work”.
Recently, the genius of mysticism has become interested in computer games, he writes scripts and develops images for characters. After the resounding success of “Forms of Water”, in 2018, the director began to collaborate with the world-famous company Netflix, for them he began to develop a plot for the series in the horror genre. The planned film product received the working title "Ten hours after midnight."
