In 1985, Vladimir Menshov's painting "Love and Pigeons" was released at the Soviet cinema distribution. The film was shot in two places at once: filming of the village life of Vasily Kuzyakin took place in Karelia, and sea filming on the Black Sea, in Batumi.
Director Vladimir Menshov made many wonderful films. One of his most striking paintings was the film "Love and Pigeons." The plot of the film was understandable and close to every Soviet audience and narrated about the life of the rustic and kind worker of the timber industry enterprise Vasily Kuzyakin.
At leisure, Vasily is engaged in breeding pigeons. Loves birds and his youngest daughter. His family lives in simple joys. The only people who bring “pepper” to their measured life are neighbors Uncle Mitya and Baba Shura. After Kuzyakin gets an industrial injury, he goes to rest at sea.
Medvezhyegorsk
Filming of the village life of Vasily took place in the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, in a town called Medvezhyegorsk. It is located on the shores of Lake Onega, near the Kumsa River. It was on the banks of the Kumsy that the house stood in which the Kuzyakins family lived according to the script. In 2011, it burned down, and now in its place a private cottage was built.
In modern Medvezhyegorsk, about 15, 000 people live, have their own dairy, an enterprise for the harvesting and processing of wood, a port, several hotels and tourist complexes. In addition to the film "Love and Pigeons", films such as "And Trees Grow on the Stones", "Piranha Hunt" and "Fourth Height" were shot here.
Batumi
When Vladimir Menshov needed to take off Kuzyakin’s trip to the sea, the film crew moved to Batumi. At the time when the operators were shooting bathing Kuzyakin and Raisa Zakharovna, it was November in Batumi, and the sea water temperature was 14 ° C above zero. By the way, in Medvezhyegorsk at the time of filming, it was also not hot - the average temperature of the warmest summer month here rarely exceeds 16 ° C.
Prototypes
Love and Doves is based on the true story of the Kuzyakin family. Screenwriter Vladimir Gurkin was personally acquainted with Nadezhda and Vasily Kuzyakins, who served as prototypes of the heroes of the film. Nadezhda and Vasily lived in the Irkutsk region, in the city of Cheremkhovo. Now in this village is a monument to the heroes of the picture.
For the first time on the Soviet screens the film "Love and Pigeons" was released in 1985. From that moment on, more than 44 million people watched it. In the same 1985, the film received the prestigious Golden Rook film award, and a year later, Love and Pigeons were already shown in Finnish and Hungarian cinemas. In 2009, the film was awarded the MTV Russia Award as one of the best films of the Soviet era.
