Biography
Evgeny Olegovich Adamov was born in Moscow in 1939. After graduating from school, he entered the Aviation Institute and received the profession of mechanical engineer.
He began to become seriously interested in nuclear safety after the Chernobyl accident. Eugene was there at the liquidation work, took part in the construction of the shelter sarcophagus.
It was at this time that the young scientist was interested in the safety of nuclear power plants, because in the country and in the world there are enough of them. And it is necessary that their work does not harm nature and people.
In Chernobyl, an active engineer was noticed and invited to work at the Mospromtekhmontazh atomic trust. By that time, Adamov already had sufficient experience in senior positions, and therefore he was immediately appointed deputy director of the trust.
Minister career
For more than ten years, Evgeny Olegovich worked at Mospromtekhmontazh, and in 1998 he became Minister of Atomic Energy.
Around the same years, in certain circles, the idea of creating the Atomprom concern arose, and the minister supported it. In such a serious area as nuclear energy, there should be only one monopolist, because this is a matter of national importance. And most importantly, a full cycle of nuclear energy production was needed.
Therefore, the concern was to become a purely state structure with elements of corporatization. Because profits in any industry have not been canceled.
Things went very slowly - there was a restructuring, the transition to new rails was difficult. Therefore, in 2006, Atomprom was headed by Sergey Kiriyenko.
And Adamov began to look for opportunities for international cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. The first state that began to cooperate in this area was Germany. It was a successful experience, and Evgeny Olegovich decided to go further.
Even during the USSR, there were preliminary agreements with India on the construction of nuclear reactors in this country, and Adam decided to resume negotiations on this issue. So he got to India.
At the same time, he also came under the sights of foreign journalists who claimed that Russia planned to export nuclear materials to other countries. And that this allows the Department of Energy to make big money.
Apparently, Adamov always had the talent of an entrepreneur, because from all contacts and acquaintances he tried to benefit for his institution. He also sought significant subsidies for updating the control systems of nuclear power plants and other energy needs.

Unpopular measures
The nineties, and the beginning of the new century, were not easy for industry as a whole, for the cities of ZATO, which were also part of the Atomprom structure. Therefore, Adamov proposed various measures to improve the work of the Russian energy sector.
One such proposal was a doubling of electricity tariffs. The Adamovs were also invited to import nuclear waste into the Russian Federation for its processing. At that time, there were many protests against this, but the import of nuclear waste was still perfect. A lot of amendments were made to environmental legislation in connection with this, however, what the country got as a result is still a matter of discussion.
In 2002, Adamov resigned as minister and became director of the Design Institute of Energy Engineering. Around the same time, he was seen on the financial sites of the Russian Federation. For example, in 2004 he became one of the board of directors of the Intersectoral Industrial Bank.
As a public man, he was always "under the gun." And when he was suspected of financial fraud, a criminal case was instituted against him. The prosecutor's office did not find anything illegal in his activities, in the presence of bank accounts abroad.
However, more and more new information about the activities of the Adamov family began to appear in the media, and the Duma commission began to check its actions.
After Yevgeny Olegovich arrived in Bern in 2005, he was arrested by order of the US Department of Justice. US authorities demanded his extradition to the United States and charged with the appropriation of nine million dollars. However, Adamov was sent to the Russian Federation and placed in the Sailor's Sailor Silence. He was presented with various charges of financial fraud, he refused everything.
In 2006, Adamov was released on bail and on his own recognizance. The trial was long, the case was multivolume. First, the former minister was sentenced to four years in general regime, and then this term was replaced by a suspended sentence. The newspapers then wrote that Adamov was saved by his past - his merits. And also the fact that he was almost seventy years old then.
After that, the former minister tried to challenge both this court decision and the illegality of the arrest, however, all decisions in his case remained in force.
