The hero caused laughter from the audience at least three hundred times per performance.
Cinema and theater
The images of Khlestakov in The Inspector General 1925 and Chatsky in the Griboedov comedy 1928 turned out to be successful. The actor’s interpretation was noticeably different from the usual ones by surprise. Garin was not just a comedian and an eccentric. He struck with lyricism.
All buffoonery and eccentricity appeared in the artist’s play while working at the Meyerhold Theater. In the early thirties, Erast Pavlovich became famous as a wonderful radio artist. An expressive voice made the performer a favorite of all listeners.
In 1936, the artist left his favorite team, deciding to start a career as a director. In the Leningrad Comedy Theater, he staged plays and played them until 1950. Vsevolod Emilievich supported the craving of his favorite for creativity. Garin remained faithful to the teacher even after the persecution against Meyerhold began.

He directed the play "The Son of the People." In it, the artist brilliantly reincarnated as Dr. Kalyuzhny. Criticism approached the work.
They decided to film the successful production. However, the Lenfilm Arts Council did not approve of the main role of the director. As a result, Boris Tolmazov copied Garin on the screen. Together with his wife, the artist moved to the capital. He began filming on Soyuzdetfilm and Mosfilm. At first, the audience did not notice his heroes.
