Jack White, an American rock musician with 12 Grammy awards, placed Rolling Stone on the 17th position on the list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2003. The beginning of the path to success
The biography of the future celebrity began in 1975. The child was born in Detroit on July 9 in a family with Polish-Canadian and Scottish roots. Of the ten children, he was the youngest.
His father, Gorman Gillis, worked in the city metropolis as secretary of the cardinal and at the same time was engaged in servicing equipment as a technician. The kid, due to the fact that he was an altar boy, in 1987 starred in the film The Rosary Murders.
Music from an early age attracted John. From the age of five, the boy played drums. Of the directions he especially liked the blues and rock of the sixties. Parents identified their son to be educated at the seminary. Only he himself decided otherwise. The decision of the younger Gillis was the transition to a regular public school. At 15, the teenager became an apprentice in the master of furniture upholstery. He worked with a family friend. Brian Mulduin, like his student, loved music. From him, John learned about punk music. The team even managed to record the album Makers of High Grade Suites.
In the early nineties, practical Jack started his business. He opened an upholstery studio. There was no shortage of clients, but the matter of pleasure did not bring the guy. Musicians from the local country punk band Goober & the Peas offered to perform with them. As a drummer with a new team, Uyat gave his first professional concert.
Confession
Since Jack's favorite number was three, he chose the trinity as his main rule: drums, guitar and vocals. And 1997, the White Stripes team appeared. E Jack founded with Meg White, his first wife. Underground garage rock became the main focus.
In 1998, the group began work with the Detroit label Italy Records, specializing in garage punk. The first album was released in 1999. Its name repeated the name of the group. A year later, the name changed to De Stijl.
Criticism fell on the guys immediately after the release of their first disc. Their second experience of White Blood Cells in 2001 was also disapprovingly met. However, colleagues drew attention to a simplified garage rock, which formed the basis of the compositions. Fame came after the presentation of the album Elephant in 2003. By that time, Jack was thinking about starting a solo career.
The world hit was his title single Seven Nation Army. The most famous performers of the country offered to cooperate with them. The debut collection gradually raised its position, taking 38th place in the Billboard top.
In the fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan, marimba, piano were added to the usual sounds of the group, the parts of the rhythm guitar increased. Jack played all the instruments. In 2007, Icky Thump was released. In the British chart, he rose to first place, and in the American he took second place. During a tour of Canada, the group performed the shortest concert in the world. It consisted of one note.
New projects
The band ceased to exist on February 2, 2011. The musicians posted this message on their official website. Meg and Jack decided to complete the collaboration at the peak of their form.
In 2005, Jack co-founded The Raconteurs. Together with Brendan Benson, the first song Steady, As She Goes, was recorded.
