Didier Marouani - French composer, founder and leader of the band "Space". His electronic music has many fans, like three decades ago. In the musician's piggy bank 10 albums, many became platinum.
The beginning of the creative path
He was born on July 14, 1953 in Monaco. From an early age, the boy mastered musical notation. At 10, he created his first work, and two years later made a studio recording. The young man continued his education at the Paris Conservatory. Didier was considered a talented student, he was repeatedly awarded prizes as the best pianist.
The young composer began collaboration with popular artists, became the author of many pop songs of those years. And soon he himself began a solo career. The musician released his debut collection "Didier Marouani" at the age of 20. This was the result of a successful collaboration with the poet Etienne Roda-Gil. This was followed by the first tour and two new collections.
Space music
World fame came to Marouani in 1976 after the creation of the legendary band "Space". Together with Roland Romanelli and Yannick Top, he is rightly considered the founder of a new musical direction synthpop. The album "Magic Fly" instantly won the recognition of the audience. A clip appeared on the composition of the same name, where the guys looked very unexpectedly in space helmets and fake suits. The melody is so remembered that it was used in one of his films by Jackie Chan. In those years, the composer appeared on the stage under the pseudonym "Ekama", although it was already clear that the author of the hits and the keyboard player were one and the same person. The group spent a lot of time in the studio, and very rarely appeared on stage. When the concert in the center of Paris once again broke through the fault of the producer, Marouani left the group and decided to perform independently under the brands "Paris-France-Transit" and "Didier Marouani & Space". The two remaining musicians released a disc written without the participation of a leader, but he did not gain popularity, and the team ceased to exist.
Didier Marouani worked a lot and fruitfully in the 80s. Spectators from many countries, including the USSR, admired his unforgettable laser show. Two new solo albums continued the theme of space, but elements of disco and rock appeared in them. The musical recordings of the talented Frenchman were taken with them by the participants of the flight to the Mir station.
10 years after the split, Marouani regained the right to its former name "Space", followed by a series of successful tours and performances. But his activity was not limited to concerts. The composer has become a songwriter for many famous artists. In the album "Symphonic Space Dream", recorded at the beginning of the new century, the musician managed to realize a long-held dream - to combine his own style and symphonic music.
A significant part of the performances of the talented artist is associated with Russia. The concert in the Star City Didier dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first space flight, he was applauded by Red Square and Sevastopol. In 2015, the famous musician again visited our country and performed on the stage of St. Petersburg.
