Biography
David Coverdale was born on September 22, 1951 in Yorkshire. His parents were music lovers and owners of a pub where live music sounded. From childhood, David heard a lot of good music and carefully sang along to the records playing in the house. At fourteen, he had already formed a voice, known to all by "Deep Purple" and "Whitesnake."
In addition to music, David liked to draw, and he entered the art college. While studying at art college, David was a member of several ensembles, such as "Vintage 67", "Magdalene", "Denver Mule". In 1968, David played in the actively performing Yorkshire band "The Skyliners".
Later, the band changed its name to "The Government" and once performed at the opening act of "Deep Purple". However, the "The Government" group did not reach the professional level and soon disintegrated. Despite this, Coverdale continued to make music and recorded his musical material. Some songs later became the hits of "Deep Purple" ("Holy Man", "Sail Away", "Soldier Of Fortune").
Creation
In 1973, Coverdale learned that Deep Purple was looking for a lead singer to replace Jan Gillan, who left the band. David was able to transfer a cassette with a demo tape and its own children's photograph attached to it. He was invited to audition, and accepted into the team. The first album that the band released with his participation was a great success. David was received by fans and members of the group, but the relationship between the members of "Deep Purple" was not easy, and after the release of two more albums, in 1976 the team broke up.
David began a solo career and in 1977 recorded his first album "White Snake", consisting of rock ballads. After the release of the second solo album - "Northwinds", David returned to Britain and assembled a group called "White Snake". The band quickly became popular, peaking in 1987, releasing their most commercially successful album. After that, the band "White Snake" broke up. In the 1990s, Coverdale was able to reanimate his White Snake project for two briefly, and in 1993, David recorded the album with Jimmy Page.
Only in 2000, David Coverdale released his solo album "Into The Light". Not only former, but also future members of the Whitesnake band participated in the recording of this disc. For several years, David was engaged in the revival of the team and, collecting new members, in 2004 returned to the big stage, embarking on a world tour.
Currently, David and his group continue to make music, touring every six months. In 2006, David Caverdale accepted US citizenship. Now he is living in Nevada, near Lake Tahoe.
