The origin of the term "reader" is associated with its Greek roots: it is composed on the basis of two words, the first of which means "use" or "use", and the second - "to study." It is noteworthy that a single term formed on the basis of these two roots already existed in Ancient Greece, and it was transferred to the Russian language in an almost unchanged form, but many years later. So, in Greece, a grammar collection, formed in the 4th century AD, was called the reader for the first time, while in Russia the first reader appeared around 1900.
Today in Russia, the term “reader” most often means a collection of complete small texts or excerpts from larger texts, united by some common theme. Often, such fragments are accompanied by comments by the compilers of the publication, which explain the special terminology used in the passage, and also describe the conditions for their creation, provide information about the authors and other information that allows the reader to better understand the meaning of the fragment given in the reader.
