An independent rock festival "Turkey" is held annually in Russia. The first time it was held in 1990, and since then it has become a cult event - every year, in early September, young rising rock stars gather in one of the rock clubs and make their debut.
The name of the festival comes from the English word independent, that is, "independent" or "independent", as well as from the name of the festival of rock music "Turkeys". However, the "transformation" of this word into a funny Russian "turkey poultry" is not accidental - only young, not fledged groups or performers perform at the festival. For them, this is either the first concert in their life, or their first performance in Moscow. This is a unique music marathon, a community of talented and unknown performers so far.
The teams participating in the Turkey Festival can play a wide variety of music: from noise electronica to folk rock, from dubstep to rhythm and blues. As a rule, these are absolutely original, unusual performers, setting up the audience for the alternative, non-mass, underground nature of the action.
Preliminarily, the festival organizing committee reviews the regional performances of hundreds of groups, selects demo records and searches for new talents. Only the most promising and talented musicians, thirsting for life and dialogue with the world, get on the list of participants of the festival "Turkey" and become famous.
The festival is visited not only by the general public, but also by journalists, producers, promoters. Therefore, young performers have every chance by civilized means to advance to the music market. This way of discovering new names has long been popular in many Western media, but in Russia young groups have a hard time.
The festival opened to the public such pearls of original music as Oriental Syndrome, Rada and Ternovnik, Collegiate Assessor, Ivanov Down, Kazma-Kazma, such promising artists as Zhenya Lubich from St. Petersburg debuted a group of “Two Two” from Yekaterinburg, the team Kira Lao from Novgorod and SUN Dali from Tomsk and many others.
