Legends still circulate about Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his underwater adventures. He was an outstanding explorer of the underwater world. During his life (and this great man lived for 87 years), he created many documentaries about what is happening deep under water. It was his work that revealed to many inhabitants the secrets of the world's oceans. And Jacques-Yves Cousteau invented scuba gear. And not only scuba gear

The early years and the love of filming
Jacques-Yves was born in France on June 11, 1910. He learned to swim very early, and already in his youth traveled a lot around the world.
When Cousteau was thirteen, his father bought a video camera to take memorable moments from his family's life. Soon, Jacques-Yves became the de facto sole owner of this camera. Obviously, this purchase of his father had a significant impact on Jacques-Yves' future career. Love and passion for filming, which originated in these years, Cousteau carried through his life.
The creation of scuba gear and the ship "Calypso"
In 1930, Jacques-Yves graduated from the naval school and began to serve as midshipman in the navy. In 1942, the French fleet in Toulon was flooded by enemy troops. And Cousteau, seconded to naval intelligence, was tasked with shooting underwater in the war zone on the Mediterranean Sea. And the following year, he developed innovative equipment for diving deep. After several experiments with the equipment, Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his fellow engineer Emil Gagnan developed a scuba suit. This suit could be used for autonomous immersion in water up to 90 meters. In addition, he allowed a person to move freely at depth in all directions.
In the future, Cousteau developed several other useful things: a waterproof camera and a lighting device, as well as the first system adapted for video shooting in water, under sufficiently high pressure.
And in 1950, Cousteau redid the minesweeper that fell into his hands and gave the updated ship the name "Calypso" - later it became famous. That "Calypso" was used for numerous underwater expeditions Cousteau. And with the help of this vessel, the first underwater archaeological excavations and photographic surveys of the bottom under water were carried out at a very great depth - up to 7250 meters.
